Spa Treatments: Which Ones and How Often?
It's true that you can never have too many spa treatments! But what if you're looking to improve your wellness and beauty program for 2008? How often is often enough and what services should you be getting? We can't emphasize enough how important it is for you to work with your massage/body technician and esthetician on developing a unique plan to suit your individual needs, but we can offer you some general thoughts to give you a basic idea of the minimum plan.
Massage
We have many clients who have stressful jobs or chronic body issues that come in once a week to maintain optimal health. (The type of massage you get really depends on your need for that visit. Please talk to your therapist about what option is best for you.) If you just ran a marathon, you might want to come twice in one week! But for general wellness, a full body massage once per month is a huge benefit to most without being a burden on time or budget.
Helpful Hint: Come in 15 minutes early and request a warm shoulder pad while you relax in our library. The heat will help to loosen muscles and generate blood flow to a typically tight area and help the therapist work them better during your service.
Facials
Again, each person is different. But if you have normal skin and want to make sure it stays well nourished and healthy, we'd advise that you see an esthetician the minimum of four times per year, if possible around the seasonal change of weather. Don't get lazy with daily home care as it is essential, too! If you have a crazed schedule and the daily routine is often skipped, try to get in for a deep cleaning and moisturizing facial every four to six weeks.
Microdermabrasion is an excellent way to keep your skin smooth and youthful looking. Integrate them into your program as often as you can!We carry only top of the line and well-tested products here at The Spa. Your esthetician will be able to tell you what will work best for you. If you have a budget, let them know so that you can work together on what core set of products would be most useful!
Helpful Hint: When it comes to skin care products, how you use them is just as important as what you use! Your esthetician will be happy to take the time to explain the proper use of recommended products. Don't remember the directions after a few weeks? Feel free to call and ask again!!!
Body Treatments
Often overlooked as a frivolous treatment, these powerhouses of detox and skin health should be on your schedule at least twice per year!!! Best time is spring and fall, but don't forget to use the detoxing treatments such as the Body Detox Wrap and Chardonnay Bliss when you're feeling particularly stressed or starting a diet. Exfoliating treatments such as Body Luminous, Bath Rituals, and the Golden Goddess are very effective ways of sloughing of old tired skin cells as well as nourishing your skin with vital minerals and nutrients while increasing circulation. All important for health and getting that youthful glow.
Helpful Hint: Schedule a half-hour massage with your body treatment. The heat from the body treatment is a great benefit to the massage and if on a tight budget, it's a wonderful way to feel like you haven't missed out on your longer massage in exchange for getting a body service!

Hair Style Trends for 2008
Bobs alá Bang
Great for straight hair, this groovy trend is beset with swing. A precision cut bob should be professionally styled to suit your particular facial structure. Bringing in a photo of what you like is a good start, but be sure to discuss what might be better suited to you with your stylist. Fun and flashy, this style can be presented as both fashionably elegant or super fun.
Mod: Similar but not
The SameLike the bob, this style's signature is blunt lines; the twist is texture and direction. A deep side part is a common staring point, the hair is then swept around the head in a dramatic way. A skilled stylist will use ample texturizing to create a lighter feel. Flexible, this stylish option can be taken all the way to a grunge feel by adding product like waxes or clays!
Individualized Layering
Remember the "Rachel"? Well, the new thought line on this once crazed for style is heavily weighted in the skill of your stylist. For 2008 you should be able to count on your stylist to bring out the natural movement of your hair by cutting carefully placed layers in the interior layers. They should be taking into account the effect those cuts have on the movement of your hair and the facial features she or he is accenting. A beautiful and sexy look!
Don't forget the Color!
Hair coloring is truly an art form. High up on the "I want" meter for this year are rich, dark colors. Eggplant, burgundy and mahagony tones work very well with dark brown and black hair, and create a warm look to otherwise plain hair. Highlights and lowlights can have the same engaging effect for those with lighter hair color. All in all, a great new style should start with a conversation between you and your stylist. Be open about the looks you like and the time you have to put into styling and upkeep. In return, you'll get honest information about what will work best and look great for you in 2008!
