October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Taking Action
 Often times we are asked to take time to reflect or support a special day set aside on the calendar. Mothers Day, Valentines Day, Veterans Day, etc., are all important and acknowledged in varying degrees by many of us using means such as cards, gifts or even simple, quiet reflection. The month of October has been proclaimed Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to increasing awareness of breast cancer issues, especially the importance of early detection. It works through a nationwide education campaign aimed at the general public, state and federal governments, health care professionals, employers, and women of all ages and ethnic groups.
You might already know that, but have you taken any action because of it? There are many things you can do to support the efforts of those professionals battling the disease; donations are the easiest of course, but there are many other things you can do.
The most important thing is to make sure you and/or your loved ones are getting the advised screenings for early detection and doing self-examinations. To learn about detection and how to help, go to: http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/

Keep in mind those around you who are fighting this battle. They need your emotional support. Being diagnosed with cancer can make those afflicted feel alone, scared, unworthy or even angry and disgusted. Be patient and don't turn away.
In an effort to make sure we can be as supportive as possible throughout the year, The Spa has put several of it's top massage therapists through a training course designed to teach proper oncology therapy massage, and how to best deal with this sensitive issue. Our Oncology Wellness Massage is offered to those in need (see details below) and as always, we like to think that our supportive and relaxing atmosphere can help relax and revive during what can be a very stressful time.

 Oncology Wellness Massage
For those who need a healing touch before, during or after cancer treatment. Specially trained therapists help relax you and restore a sense of well-being. Please allow 15 additional minutes for a required health interview on your first visit. This is a full body massage, but no deep tissue or aggressive styles will be used. The use of steam in the shower afterwards should be avoided. If any surgery has been involved, six weeks must have passed since the operation.)
